How to disable Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S10: step by step instructions

The question of how to completely disable Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S10 may arise from a wide variety of user categories. And not necessarily talking about paranoids who fear that the voice assistant installed on the smartphone can eavesdrop on what is happening around.

For example, someone may not use virtual voice assistants at all. And the third much more like the standard Google Assistant, included in the delivery of the Android operating system. However, Samsung installs the Bixby on the Galaxy S10 by default.

Actually, this voice assistant includes three components:

  • The very “talker” Bixby Voice
  • Physical Assistant Button
  • Bixby Home Panel

Below we look at how to deactivate all three of them.

How to disable the Bixby button

To activate the voice assistant in the case of the Galaxy S10, S10E and S10 Plus, as well as other Korean company flagships released over the past two years, there is a special button located on the left side face below the volume control keys.

In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S10, it is possible to switch between voice assistants (see photo at the beginning). For example, you can make Bixby run on a single click on this button, and Google Assistant on a double click. If desired, you can do exactly the opposite.

Unfortunately, you can assign an arbitrary action when you click on this button. But you can turn it off completely:

Swipe right on the Galaxy S10’s home screen to open the Bixby Home home page.

Click on the gear icon to go to the voice assistant settings.

Turn the button status switch to the off position.

However, this operation does not allow you to disable Bixby on the Galaxy S10 completely.

Turn off bixby voice

The procedure is as follows

  1. Open the Bixby Home screen with a right swipe or press the voice assistant’s call button, if you have not turned it off earlier.
  2. Click on the transition icon in the virtual assistant settings. You can also go there through the main system settings menu.
  3. Move the Bixby Voice switch to the off position.

From this point on, the “talker” will no longer bother you.

Deactivating the Bixby Home panel

Fortunately, Samsung developers have provided such an opportunity. To do this, press and hold any part of the home screen that is free from active elements like icons. Scroll right to the last left panel. There you will find a switch that allows you to disable Bixby Home

Can I get rid of the Samsung voice assistant completely?

The virtual assistant is a standard component of the proprietary OneUI shell, which came with the Android 9.0 Pie to replace the good old Experience and is installed by default on the Galaxy S10. Thus, Bixby is an integral part of the firmware of the smartphone.

Out of it, in principle, can be done in two ways. Option one: activate root mode and use one of the utilities to tweak Android. Option two: install an alternative firmware. However, in both cases, the Knox counter is triggered and you automatically lose both a full guarantee and Samsung Pay payments.

In general, we do not recommend disabling Bixby on your Galaxy S10 completely. Compared to its earlier versions, it has become much more convenient and more accurately recognizes voice commands. And if paranoia doesn’t give you any peace, then let the Koreans from Samsung listen to you better than the Americans from Google.
